How Often Can You Use a Sauna?
Share
Saunas can be a great addition to your wellness routine—but how often should you actually use one?
For most healthy adults, 3–4 sauna sessions per week is a reasonable starting point. Some experienced sauna users may choose to use a sauna daily, provided they tolerate the heat well and stay properly hydrated.
If You’re New to Sauna Use
Start slowly. Try 2–3 sessions per week, lasting around 10–15 minutes each. As your body becomes accustomed to the heat, you can gradually increase the length or frequency of your sessions.
Can You Sauna Every Day?
Many people can tolerate daily sauna sessions, but more isn't always better. Pay attention to how you feel before, during, and after each session.
If you feel dizzy, lightheaded, nauseous, unusually weak, or dehydrated, leave the sauna and cool down.
Infrared vs. Traditional Sauna
Both infrared and traditional saunas can be incorporated into a regular routine.
Infrared saunas typically operate at lower air temperatures and may feel more comfortable for longer sessions.
Traditional saunas use higher temperatures, so some people prefer shorter sessions or more recovery time between uses.
Hydration Matters
Heat exposure causes you to sweat and lose fluids. Drink water before and after your sauna session, especially if you use your sauna frequently. Avoid using a sauna while dehydrated or after drinking alcohol.
Find the Routine That Works for You
There isn't one perfect sauna schedule for everyone. A good approach is to start with 2–3 sessions per week and gradually work your way up based on how your body responds.
Consistency matters more than pushing yourself to stay in the heat longer.
